Community Support

Throughout the year, VillaSport reaches out to the community to lend a helping hand. Local schools, food pantries, and local and national charities have benefited from the generosity of VillaSport, our members and staff.

We are always exploring new ways to support our community and welcome your  suggestions.  Do you know of a charity that could use a helping hand? If so, fill out and submit our community support form.

We review proposals quarterly beginning January 1, with a goal of selecting and notifying all applicants within 60 days.

The following are some of the programs in which we participate:

PJ AND BOOK DRIVE
VillaSport has partnered with Sweet Dreams Colorado, an organization that delivers new pajamas and books to children waiting and hoping to be adopted. Donations will be accepted until December 20 in the main lobby and at VillaKids. Clothing sizes from newborn to teen XXXL and new books are requested, and will be delivered to the children in time for the Christmas holiday. There are 12,000 children living in group homes, foster care and orphanages in El Paso County. Some of them have never known the comforts of a parent tucking them into bed at night and reading them a bedtime story. Give these children their sweet dreams and hope for a better tomorrow!

JoyJars® Drive
In August, we will partner with Memorial Hospital for Children to support the Jessie Rees Foundation™, whose mission is to empower every kid fighting cancer to NEVER GIVE UP.

Throughout the month, we will accept donations to fill JoyJars® to bring smiles to children with cancer. All items must be new and in their original packaging. Suggestions include: balls, playing cards, activity books, crayons, stickers, pens, notepads, small board books, Slinkies, pacifiers, small stuffed animals, mini puzzles, and teethers.

Jessie Rees Foundation™ is a recognized 501(c)3 public charity (#45-1836440). For more information, please visit www.joyjars.org or www.jessie.org .

Care and Share Food Bank, Southern Colorado
We have supported the Care and Share Food Bank in Colorado Springs in the past, during the holidays. Collection of non-perishable items such as soups, cereal, peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, Tuna Helper, canned tuna and other canned foods are all great choices.
In 2010, for the third year, donation baskets were displayed and food collected during the month of November. Thank you to the VillaSport community for their great response.

In 2009, 720 pounds of food was collected for Colorado’s Care and Share Food Bank. The food directly benefited members of El Paso County who were having trouble feeding their families during the tough economic times.

In November 2008, VillaSport members and staff collected almost 400 pounds of food for the Colorado Springs Chapter of the the Care and Share Food Bank.

Bingo Night
The Make-A-Wish Foundation®

On February 26, 2011 we had our 2nd annual VillaSport Bingo Night. Games! Raffles! Cash Prizes! All proceeds were again donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation®, granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy
.
On February 27, 2010, more than 500 members and guests attended the first annual VillaSport/Make-A-Wish Bingo Night. The evening netted $5,000 for the Colorado Springs Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Members and guests enjoyed food and drink supplied by our generous affiliates and prizes were awarded throughout the evening.

One Warm Coat
Part of a national effort, our goal was to provide any person in need with a warm coat, free of charge. Providing this simple, yet vital need helps people live productive lives year round. The coats will be donated to Burlington Coat Factory as the primary sponsor of the event and distributed throughout local charities.

In December 2008, the VillaSport staff collected more than 260 gently used coats for the Warm Coats and Warm Hearts coat drive. Our support of this nationally supported event kept those less fortunate warm during the winter season.

Toys for Tots Toy Drive
VillaSport was an authorized drop-off location for the Colorado Springs community. Bins of new toys for all age groups were collected so that less fortunate children could experience the joy of the holiday season.

Last year the Marine Corps League, Pikes Peak Region, Toys for Tots Toy Drive benefited from the generosity of VillaSport members.

School Expo
On January 9, 2010, more than 40 local schools came together on the VillaSport court to promote their curricula and programs. This unique event attracted hundreds of families interested in finding the perfect educational opportunities for their children. The day was topped off with a Family Open House, including special group fitness classes designed just for families.

Sweet Dreams Colorado
During the 2009 holiday season, VillaSport staff and members collected pajamas and books for Sweet Dreams Colorado. This charity delivers pajamas and books to children waiting and hoping to be adopted. There are over 12,000 children living in group homes, foster care and orphanages in El Paso County. Some of these children have never known the comforts of a parent tucking them into bed at night and reading them a bedtime story.

Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure®
On September 7, 2008, the VillaSport team braved a cold, early morning and staffed a water station in support of the 25th annual Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure. It was a wonderful event for a great cause.

On September 13, 2009, VillaSport once again staffed a water station in support of the 26th annual Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure.

Lance Armstrong Spinning® Nation 2009
In February 2009, VillaSport participated in the Lance Armstrong Spinning Nation. Clubs across the country conducted one-hour spinning classes to raise money in support of the Lance Armstrong Foundation and Athletics for a Cure.
